Project Evaluation Executive Summary October 2008
A collaborative project with Metropolitan Divisions of General Practice.
Canning Division of General Practice has been funded for the Family and Domestic
Violence Project under the National Community Crime Prevention Programme, an
Australian Government Initiative, to work in partnership with other metropolitan
Divisions of General Practice and a range of community based family and domestic
violence (F&DV) service providers to extend the Project throughout the metropolitan area.
The Project aims to:

provide the opportunity for GPs and Practice Staff across the metropolitan area to gain
increased knowledge, skills and confidence, to positively impact on the outcomes for
General Practice patients who have experienced family and domestic violence; and
-
improve communication and relationships between General Practices and family and
domestic violence service providers
A series of workshops is currently being offered to GPs and Practice Staff and resources provided for GPs,
Practice Staff and their patients. Communication with F&DV service providers is mostly through the
Regional Domestic Violence Co-ordination Response Groups or their equivalent. Specialist F&DV service
providers are invited to be involved in the workshop presentations.
The other participating Divisions of General Practice include:
- Perth Primary Care Network (formerly GP Coastal and Perth and Hills Divisions)
- Osborne GP Network;
- Fremantle GP Network;
- Rockingham/Kwinana; and
- GP down south (Mandurah)
A GP booklet titled
“Identifying and Responding to Family Violence: A guide for General Practitioners”
(2007) is available to GPs who have participated in GP workshops and/or practice visits conducted by
Canning Division. A Family and Domestic Violence Services
Insert South East
(including metropolitan wide and south east metropolitan services) for the booklet has been provided to
GPs and practice staff participating in a workshop and/or practice visit.
An additional resource has been designed for patients in the south east metropolitan area. This is a
brochure titled "Preventing Family and Domestic Violence:
We can all do something about it South East Metropolitan Area".
The GP booklet titled “Identifying and Responding to Family Violence:
A guide for General Practitioners” (2007) is being distributed to GPs who participate in GP workshops and/or
practice visits organised by family and domestic violence project officers located in the Perth Metropolitan
divisions.
The Family and Domestic Violence Services Insert North
(including Perth metropolitan wide and northern metropolitan services) designed to accompany the booklet,
has been provided to GPs and practice staff participating in a workshop and/or practice visit.
The Family and Domestic Violence Services Insert South
(including Perth metropolitan wide and northern metropolitan services) for the booklet is being provided to GPs
and practice staff participating in a workshop and/or practice visit.
The patient brochure titled "Preventing Family and Domestic
Violence: We can all do something about it" North Metropolitan Area. is designed to cover patients living
anywhere North of the Swan river. (Mosman Park - Two Rocks - The hills suburbs.)
The patient brochure titled "Preventing Family and Domestic
Violence: We can all do something about it" South Metropolitan Area. is designed to cover patients in the
Fremantle - Mandurah corridor.

that have experienced family and domestic violence who live in country WA.
